What happens after my anaesthetic?

  1. Discharge and Escort: For your safety, you must be accompanied by a responsible adult upon discharge. It is crucial that you do not leave the location of your procedure unaccompanied by a trusted individual.  It is recommended that you remain in the company of a responsible adult for 24 hours.

  2. Post-Anaesthesia Care: To promote a comfortable recovery, please adhere to the following guidelines:

    1. Eating and Drinking: You may start with clear liquids and light, easily digestible foods. Avoid heavy or greasy meals for the first few hours after your procedure to prevent nausea or discomfort. Please note that the consumption of alcohol is strongly discouraged during your recovery period (for at least 24 hours), as it may interact with the residual effects of anaesthesia.

    2. Pain Relief: You might experience some discomfort or pain following your procedure. The prescribed pain relief medication should be taken as directed by your healthcare provider. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have concerns about your pain management.

    3. Resuming Normal Activities: Engage in light activities initially and gradually increase your level of activity over the next few days. Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, or intense physical activity for at least 24 hours.

    4. Anaesthesia can temporarily affect your coordination and judgment, so it is crucial that you refrain from making critical decisions or engaging in activities that require your full attention.

      1. Legally Binding Decisions: while under the effects of anaesthesia, you might not be in the best state to make important decisions. It is advised to postpone any legal decisions or signing important documents for at least 24 hours.

      2. Driving and Operating Machinery:  Anaesthesia may affect your reflexes and concentration, posing a risk on the road or in hazardous settings.  For your safety and the safety of others, you should not drive a vehicle or operate heavy machinery for at least the next 24 hours.

Your well-being is our utmost priority, and we are committed to providing you with the best care and support during this recovery period. Follow these instructions closely to ensure a smooth recuperation.
